The
8th JK Tyre National Racing Championship 2005 is interestingly
poised, with four rounds over and three more to go. And as the fifth leg kicks
off this weekend at the MMST track at Sriperumbudur two days of action and thrills
can be easily foreseen. The qualifying sessions will be held on Saturday, 27th
August 2005. Over 45 drivers in three categories - Formula LGB, Formula Maruti
(FISSME) and Esteem will be seen in action.
The premium race category - Formula LGB - has seen some of the best racing action
in this year’s championship. The fight for the top slot promises to once
again a thriller as overall championship leader Ameya Walavalkar from Mumbai
will to have to fend off the challenge from Rayomand Banajee of Pune and Sarosh
Hataria of Chennai to retain his lead. Ameya leads with 63 points. Tied in 2nd
place are Rayomand and Sarosh Hataria with 55 points apiece.
Fighting out for honors in the Formula Maruti category will be Kolkata racer Amittrajit Ghosh of Team Valvoline who will also be looking forward to consolidate his championship lead of 66 points. But preying on him will be Rayomand Banajee from Pune and Gaurav Dalal of Team Gabriel who are not very far behind with 58 and 57 points respectively. With all the three faring extremely well the battle for the championship title will continue this weekend.
And in the Esteem category Ayub Khan with 8 out of 8 wins looks unbeatable with a huge tally of 87 points and a couple of wins in the next round will ensure that the championship slot is almost his. K E Kumar with 55 points is a far second while Radha Selvaraj is in third place with 44 points. In the Esteem class the difference between the first and second places is 26 points which assures Ayub Khan of holding on to the overall championship lead irrespective of his performance in the fifth leg.
The Championship consisting of seven rounds organized under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).
The races will commence at 10 am. Entry for the public is free.
