The 5th leg of the J K Tyre National Racing Championship 2005 got off once again to a blazing start with over 40 competitors fighting it out to grab the pole positions in the various classes at the MMST Track at Irrungattukottai near Chennai.
Championship leader Ameya Walavalkar was pushed to 2nd place behind Rayomand Banajee who drove well to take the pole in the 1st qualifying race of the Formula LGB category. Rayomand lapped the fastest with a timing of 01:59:455 followed by Ameya who had a timing of 01:59:932. In 3rd place was Sarosh Hataria with a timing of a timing of 02:00:304. Race 2 saw a repeat performance once again from Rayomand as he took the pole with a timing of 02:00:147. Sarosh took the 2nd slot with a timing of 02:00:324 while Ameya had to be content with the 3rd place having timed 02:00:453.
Formula Maruti category saw Gaurav Dalal taking the pole as he drove the fastest lap in the first qualifying race with a timing of 02:08:043. Aditya Patel came up with a good effort to clinch the 2nd place while Rayomand Banajee finished 3rd. Aditya had a timing of 02:08:112 while Rayomand timed 02:08:259. Championship leader Amitraji Ghosh had to be content with 4th place. Race 2 saw a better performance from Aditya Patel which enabled him to qualify for his first ever pole in the championship with the fastest lap timing of 02:08:783. Championship leader Amitrajit who finished 4th in the first qualifying improved on his earlier performance to finish in 2nd place with a timing of 02:08:858 while Sahil Shelar came in 3rd having timed 02:08:977.
In the first qualifying race for the Esteem category championship leader Ayub Khan had problems with his vehicle and was relegated to third place in the grid. Ending up in his first pole position of the season was veteran K.E.Kumar with the fastest lap timing of 02:10:718. Saran Vikram finished 2nd. Race 2 saw Ayub Khan back in full swing as a brilliant drive enabled him once again to take the pole position with a timing of 02:11:022. K.E. Kumar finished 2nd while Saran Vikram had to settle for 3rd place. Kumar had a timing of 02:11:102 while Saran timed 02:11:583.
