8th National Racing Championship 2005
Round 6:: Chennai :: 01- 02 October 2005

Pre - Event Release

Chennai, September 28: As the sixth round of the 8th JK Tyre National Racing Championship kicks off this weekend at the MMST track at Sriperumbudur, the battle for the championship title will intensify as the results of this penultimate round could prove to be the decisive factor for all the three categories. The qualifying sessions and one race in the Esteem category will be held on Saturday (October 1). Over 45 drivers in three categories - Formula LGB, Formula Maruti (FISSME) and Esteem will be seen in action.

The premium race category - Formula LGB - has seen some of the best racing action in this year’s championship. The battlefield for the top slot has been a thriller with the championship lead changing hands. Ameya Walavalkar from Mumbai who was in the lead till the 4th round surrendered the lead to Rayomand Banajee of Pune and is now in second place. Rayomand now leads the pack with 76 points while Ameya and Sarosh Hataria from Chennai are close behind with 71 and 67 points respectively.

Fighting out for honors in the Formula Maruti category will be Kolkata racer and championship leader Amittrajit Ghosh of Team Valvoline who will also have to come up with a significant performance to ensure that he retains and builds up a significant lead. He leads with a tally of 77 points. But preying on him will be the lanky Rayomand Banajee from Pune - for whom this has been a good season - and Gaurav Dalal of Team Gabriel who are not very far behind with 70 and 67 points respectively.

With all the top three faring extremely well in both Formula LGB and Formula Maruti categories the battle for the championship title promises to be a delight for the race connoisseurs.

And in the Esteem category Ayub Khan with eight wins out of 10 will have to forget his disastrous patch in the 5th leg and put up a better show in this round. Ayub still leads in the championship but with a reduced lead. Having finished 4th in the first race of the 5th leg and being disqualified from the 2nd race helped Ayub’s nearest rival K E Kumar to improve his points tally. Ayub now leads with 92 points while K E Kumar is in 2nd place with 76 points. The battle for the third place will now be a four way fight between Radha Selvaraj(44 pts), B. Vijay Kumar(43 pts), Saran Vikram(41 pts) and Ashwin Sunder(38 pts). Radha Selvaraj did not participate in the 5th leg.

The races will commence at 10.30 am. Entry for the public is free.
