EBRAHIM & RAYOMAND BANAJEE TO REPRESENT INDIA IN WORLD FINALS OF THE
ROTAX MAX KARTING |
16th January 2005
The J K Tyre Rotax Indian Karting Challenge Series was introduced to India for the first time in 2004 by Akbar Ebrahim of L G Sports Pvt. Ltd. The five rounds of the Indian challenge 2004 sponsored by J K Tyre were held at the Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore (3 rounds) and Speedzone Track, Bangalore (2rounds). These two tracks are the only ones in India that are certified to run these high-speed karts.
Armaan Ebrahim from Chennai and Rayomand Banajee from Pune won the championship in he Junior and Senior classes respectively. This duo will represent India in the World Finals to be held in Lanzarote, Spain on 22nd January 2005. Competitors from 36 countries will be fighting it out for the World Champion Title.
ROTAX BRP is an Austrian based company and was a subsidiary company of Bombardier, which is the 3rd largest aircraft manufacturing company in the world.
Rotax Kart Engines, which are presently 2 stroke engines, are the highest selling kart engines worldwide. The range of engines include the Rotax Mini Max for Cadets which develops a power output of 14 bhp, the Rotax Junior engines which develop a power output of 22 bhp and the Rotax Senior Engines which develop a output of 28 bhp. The engines are water cooled and come with sophisticated carburetion and a self-starter. The speeds that the Junior and Senior Karts achieve are in the range of 130 to 140 kmph in short straights of 150 meters.
With his worldwide motor sport experience and associations, Akbar signed a Distributor agreement with Rotax on behalf of L G Sports to introduce the Rotax products and the World famous Rotax Championship to India. The Rotax Challenge is a CIK (World Body of Karting) approved Championship. It is unique in nature as it allows entrants to use different makes of chassis’s as per the CIK regulations. However all engines are the same and sealed thereby providing some very fast and close racing. These are the class of karts that all present Formula I drivers have graduated from and the strain on one’s body from the high G forces is tremendous.
Team India is being sponsored by J K Tyre.
