indmotorsport (IMS) Congratulations TKV on winning the coveted "Indian National Champion for racing" title for the year 2005. How do you feel ?
T.K. Vishwanath (TKV) Thank you. I feel very happy and on top of the world.
IMS How did you get interest in motorsport ?
TKV We used to see some local events being held near my house in Bangalore. Then my Cousin Anand (C.Vijayakumars brother) encouraged me saying that I could ride better than all the riders we see at those races. Thats how I got interest in Motorsports. I also used to ride fast on the Bangalore tar roads, then Anand told me about the race track at Chennai, that’s when I thought of giving it a try.
IMS Your first event ?
TKV My first event was a local Dirt Track event. Then I started participating in both Motocross and Dirt Track events. I won the Indian Experts 110-150cc Gr.B championship in 2002 and have been the Runner Up in the Foreign category in 2004 in the National MX Championships. I was the runner up in the Gulf Dirt track Championship 2004.
IMS Your Bike
TKV I started my racing career on a Yamaha. I joined the Team Yamaha Racing in 2003. I ride the latest Yamaha YZ 250F in the MX , Dirt tracks & ride a fully modified (Gr.C) Yamaha RX 135 which is capable of doing over 190kmph in the races. Yamaha has been my Favourite Bike.
IMS Your Tuner
TKV My tuner is Shekar Bhojanna from Bangalore who is also the Director of Team Yamaha Racing. I think he is the best tuner in the Country and the best thing in him is that he has just come to the races only once in the last 2 yrs. He sets up the bike in Bangalore and I just have to go and win out there in Coimbatore or Chennai.
IMS Your Team
TKV My team is Yamaha Racing. We are a total of 9 riders in the MX & Dirt track team and 3 riders in the Road Road Racing team. My Director is Mr.Shekar Bhojanna. I have to thank Mr.Amano San, Mr Kawasaki, Mr.Itoh, Mr.Cheema of Yamaha and all the people, especially my mechanics who do a wonderfull job & my managers Mr.Sujith Kumar & Mr.Jagadish.
IMS The championship has been well fought. How were you mentally / physically prepared and how was your team support
TKV
I am a fitness freak & regularly work out at the Gym. As far as mental fitness is concerned I stay very cool and make my riding speak. All my team members supported me a lot and were ready to help me in what ever I wanted.
IMS The Championship
TKV This year the Championship was very well organized both at Coimbatore & Chennai. I have won 8 of the 12 races (6 rounds) this year.
IMS Future plans
TKV

I would like to race abroad especially in the Asian racing Championships. I am very confident of doing well provided I get the support required and a good bike (of course Yamaha) to ride.

IMS Suggestions to improve motorsport in general and racing in particular
TKV We should have a minimum of 8 rounds a year. More and more rounds would make the championship very competitive and interesting. We should have a training camp for racing. I feel that we should have a very clean & fair competition. We should also see that more number of riders are there at the track and also more spectators. Publicity needs to be improved a lot.
IMS How do you think the Indian riders can be improved upon to meet international challenges in road racing
TKV I think that going & racing a few rounds abroad in the Asian level itself will improve the standards here. We have only about 8-9 riders on the Grid compared to 20+ abroad. Training is a must, and more and more riders should be sent abroad, at the Asian level to begin with.
