Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally 2005 2nd & 3rd July 2005

Come, the rains and it's time for the Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally. This is an event sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation , and organized by Sportscraft, under the aegis of Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India . The event has gained enormous response over the years and is the only scooter rally in the country. Scooter riders from Mumbai and neighboring cities like Pune, Nashik and Kolhapur look forward to participate in this exciting rally. .

On July 2 and 3, Sportscraft will conduct its 15th Monsoon Scooter Rally, which is 5th. event sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation, popularly known as Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally.

Leading the challenge is Shamim Khan, who will be bidding for a third straight title of Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally , having won the event the last two years. But, like last year when he won by the narrowest of margins, he is sure to have a stiff fight from the likes of former champions Manjeet Singh Bassan, Rustom Patel, Shailesh Gala, and Badal Doshi and Freddy Elavia.

Twenty-five riders have confirmed their participation and another ten are expected by the closing date for entries.

At Stake is a prize worth Rs. 45000 and in addition to this, special prizes are being offered to Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Nashik riders.

Sportscraft has chalked out a new course between Vikhroli and Vashi for the race, which will have two sectors -- competitive and transport. The competitive sector that covers gravel-laden and dirt tracks is around 35 kms.

The rally will start from Andheri and proceed along Powai, Vikroli, Ghatkopar, Vashi, Targhar.

Going by the conditions the riders experienced last year this year Gulf Monsoon Scooter rally is sure going to be tough and exciting for the riders.

Gulf Oil Corporation Executive Director Mr. V Ramesh says, "The event is being organised in order to inculcate a riding discipline among two-wheeler riders as also to give them a chance to enjoy the thrill of racing and display their riding skills in a safe environment, without the fear of injury or getting hurt." By sponsoring events like the Dirt Track Challenge, Dirt Track National Championship, Autocross, Monsoon Scooter Rally and Foster-A-Child Rally, Gulf Oil Corporation has not only given two-wheeler racing enthusiasts and manufacturers an opportunity to display their wares, but has also given motor sport a strong boost.”

The rally will start from the Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd. headquarters, 49/50 In Centre, MIDC, 12th Road, Marol, Andheri, East, at 08:30 hours and finish at K. Star Hotel, Plot No. 46 & 55, Sector 11, CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai by 1400 hours.

The rally is open to all Indian made scooters -- two stroke, four stroke and gearless.
