Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally 2005 2nd & 3rd July 2005 |
Twenty-two riders have confirmed for the 15th Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally, to be run around the backwoods of Navi Mumbai on Sunday, July 3. This Gulf Oil Corporation-sponsored event, organized by Sportscraft, being held under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, promises a stiff challenge for both rider and scooter.
With the monsoon in full fury, the course chalked out by Sportscraft has already become a virtual marshland. A section of the rally route may have to be altered as it is water logged.
After the rally starts from Andheri, the riders will proceed along Vikhroli to Vashi for the 35 km competitive sectors. Here lies the main challenge, as some tracts are gravel-laden and some slushy. The 2 first timers in particular will have to extremely cautious while negotiating the bends and inclines.
Shamim Khan defending champion though has the experience of the conditions, having participated in motorcycle rallies too, will sure have a stiff fight on his hands as former champion Manjeet Singh Bassan determined to deny him a third straight triumph.
Then there is also Afzal Khan, Rustom Patel and Freddy Elavia. All a daredevils on two-wheelers and have it in them to upset the defending champion's applecart. But in the end all will boil down to riding skills and the dependability of the vehicle.
For the first time manufacturers Kinetic Honda are participating in a big way and will provide free service to participating riding their vehicles after the event.
Pre-event scrutiny will be held at Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., In Centre, 49/50 MIDC, 12th Rd, Marol, on Saturday at 14:00 hrs – 16:00 hrs.
The rally will be flagged off a 0830 hours from the same place.
