GULF DIRT TRACK CHALLENGE FOR TWO WHEELERS

8TH & 9TH JANUARY 2005 - NAGPUR

NAGPUR: The S. B. city college ground, staged new sport on Sunday the 9th January 2005 the Gulf Dirt Track Challenge for two –wheelers.

The spectators came in numbers from far and near to cheer and morally support their friends / family members participating in the event. Some came for the love of sports and to cheer the riders.

The event was flagged off at 9:00 am by Mr. D. Sivanandhan - Commissioner of Police, Nagpur.

Riders from all over India came down to Nagpur to participate and show their skills in the Gulf Dirt Track Challenge. Nothing dithered their single-minded sprit of winning.

It is the third year in succession that The Gulf Dirt Track Challenge has been staged. An event is sponsored by the Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., which is the 2nd largest private sector company in the Indian Lubricants market.

In India, Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., has now emerged as a strong player in the motor sports arena continuously sponsoring many motor racing events, amongst them being the Gulf Dirt Track Challenge, Gulf Autocross, Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally and also Gulf Foster-A-Child Rally. Besides these events GULF OIL Corporation Ltd., also sponsors well-known racing drivers who participate at rallies organised by Motor Sports Asssociation of India (MAI) Indian National Rally Championship. Last year Gulf Oil Corporation was appointed as the Official Lubricant Sponsor for the 5th Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya.

Gulf Oil Corporation also provides the necessary lubricants required to enhance the performance of the participants vehicles for all these events.

This event is being staged under the aegis of FMSCI and organised by Mumbai’s Sportscraft in association with in association with the Vidarbha Automotive Racing Association (VARA),

Yamaha Racing Team with its team of professional riders gleaming in their riding suits all ready to conquer on their machines. All eyes were set on last years Gulf Dirt Track Champion Syed Eathashaham.

The riders fought tooth & nail but it was Syed Eathasham of Yamaha Racing Team who stole the show on his Yamaha Foreign bike claiming a well-deserved victory.

Mr. Ranjit Haldar Of Vidarbha proved to be the best of Vidarbha boys and bagged trophy in class Motorcycle above 80cc upto 110cc Group D -2 Stroke.

The spectators were totally entertained and went back cheering the daredevils and few wished that they were part of it.

This was the fourth round of the five series. The fifth rounds will be staged at Coimbatore on 13th March 2004.

In Nagpur, in the scooters above 80cc upto 110cc Group D, Shamim Khan (Nasik) and Nitin Bajoria (Nagpur) came first and second respectively. At the top in scooters above 80cc upto 110cc Group D– Ladies class was Ms. Zeba .P. Hossain who showed excellent riding skills. The overall winner in the foreign motorcycles upto 250cc Group ‘A’ category was Syed Eathasham of the Yamaha Racing Team, followed by Shiva Kumar of the Yamaha Racing Team, jointly with Yogesh Barguje of the Yamaha Racing Team, while in the motorcycles above 80cc upto 110cc Group ‘D’ four-stroke event, Shiva Kumar of Yamaha Racing Team on a Yamaha –CRUX rode out the eventual winner. In the motorcycles above 80cc upto 150cc Group ‘B’ two- stroke category Shiv Kumar of Yamaha Racing Team got the better of Syed Eathasham and Yogesh Barguje of Yamaha Racing Team who were placed second and third respectively. Also victorious in the motorcycles above 110cc upto 180cc four stroke Group ‘D’ event was V.Lokesh of Yamaha Racing Team on a Yamaha - YBX.
