Ameya & Hagnani wins trip to Malaysian GP

The “Can You Beat The Fastest Indian” go-karting challenge was definitely missing the fastest Indian in the world with Narain Karthikeyan busy setting up his drive for the 2005 Formula 1 2005 season with Jordan. Nevertheless having altered the qualifying format the “Can You Beat The Fastest Indian” presented by Tata Racing, SPEED from Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd. and Red Bull energy drink and organized by OVERDRIVE Magazine and Sportscraft, and held at he Hakone Go-Kart circuit at Powai, Mumbai saw a large number of participants vying for top honors.

With Narain’s absence the organizers had to revise the qualifying sessions which saw all the entrants setting individual times. The drivers who then set the top ten times qualified for the next session where Aditya Patel winner of the Bangalore round set a time to be beaten. This time was then bested by Ameya Walavalkar who wins a ticket to the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix amongst a host of other prizes. In second place was Abbas Ghadiali who wins a cheque of Rs15000 and a trophy with Aditya Patel coming in third and receiving a cheque for Rs7500 and a trophy.

The grand final held later in the evening saw the winners from all the regional rounds racing against each other in a bid to win yet another trip to the Malaysian GP. Ameya Walavalkar, Abbas Ghadiali and Sunny Bhagnani from Mumbai, C Raghunath Babu from Hyderabad, Aditya Patel from Bangalore and Savio Rodrigues, Nizam Ahmed and Nadeem Sheikh from Goa were the drivers battling it out in the final round. In a very competitive race among the best of the best Ameya Walavalkar emerged as the champion of them all, however since he had already won a ticket to the Malaysian GP and as per the regulations stipulated by the event organizers it was second placed Sunny Hagnani who won this trip. Goa lad Savio Rodrigues claimed third place after a grim contest against Aditya Patel and Abbas Ghadiali.
