Dirt Track National Championship 2006 POST EVENT REPORT |

Nashik : 12th November 2006 :It was a different scenario on the Idgah Maidan (Golf Club Ground), when the riders from all over India had accumulated to strive for the honors. All dressed in their safety riding gear was a pleasure and thrill for the spectator who had come to cheer the. Total number of 127 entries was received. Shree Bejan Desai and Uttam Rao Kamble flagged of the Gulf DTNC at 10:00 a.m. Some of the best riders of the country participated. Professional riders from TVS Racing Team added glamour to the show, exhibiting their skills at high speeds, their breaking ability over bends and controlling their machines superbly in the slush. Besides these professionals, there were also experts from Bangalore, Pune, Nashik and Mumbai who put up an excellent show.
As the event took off there was lots of applauding from the crowd, as they were thrilled to see the spectacular event and a great competition. As much as the spectators enjoyed, the competitors were more charged competing and gave excellent performance. Overall, there were 12 classes.
In the (Indian
Expert Class) foreign two- wheeler category, Karan Kadam of TVS Racing
on his TVS 250 FX grabbed 37 points. He was followed
by H K Pradeep and Pramod Joshua who received
31 & 30 points, respectively. Pinkesh Thakkar of Pune stole
the show on his Yamaha in the Motorcycle above 80cc upto 150cc
group B (Private Expert Class). This class witnessed lot of action esspecially
in race 2 where Snehal Chavan while overtaking was nudge by
Rustom Patel which sent him for a toss and Snehal finished
6th instead of 1st. Snehal filed a protest due to which the results of this
race were withheld subject to conclusion of the inquiry initiated by the Stewards
for this incident. Arvind K P of TVS Racing in
the Indian Novice class, topped the podium. Pinkesh Thakkar of
Pune proved a cut above all in Local class, where Vikrant Raut though
finishing second in the 2 stroke local class was disqualified after the post
event scrutiny as his vehicle did not conform to the FMSCI technical regulations.
Shamim Khan from Nashik was fastest on his Kinetic
Marvel in the scooter upto 110cc class. His control and speed in this
category was remarkable. Also Pinkesh Thakkar of Pune secured
the second position, while Javed Khan of Nashik captured the
third position.The spectators were totally entertained and went back cheering
the daredevils and few wished that they were part of it.
The event was organised to the precision. The credit goes to Mr. Shrikant Karani of Sportscraft for his detailed worked to make this event a great success. Mr. Bijoy Paul – Sr. Marketing Manager of Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., (Lubricants Division) gave away the prizes. During the occasion he said that; , “The events are being organised in order to inculcate a riding discipline among two-wheeler riders as also to give them a chance to enjoy the thrill of racing and display their riding skills in a safe environment, without the fear of injury or getting hurt”.
It is the second year in succession that The Gulf Dirt Track National Championship has been staged. An event nurtured by the Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., which is the 2nd largest private sector company in the Indian Lubricants market and organised by Sportscraft , was held under the aegis of the FMSCI. In India, Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd., has now emerged as a strong player in the motor sports arena continuously sponsoring many motor racing events, amongst them being the Gulf Dirt Track Challenge, Gulf Autocross, Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally and also Gulf Foster-A-Child Rally.
This was the fourth round of the five series. The fifth and final round will be staged at Jodhpur.
