The last year’s defending champion C. S. Santosh of TVS Racing Team in Foreign Motorcycles Upto 250cc Group A and Syed Shabbir  in Novice Championship Motorcycle  Upto 160cc Group D – 4 Strokes will be challenged by C. Vijaykumar and Hafeeur Rehman  in  the forthcoming Gulf Dirt Track National Championship  scheduled for the 22nd & 23rd July 2006 at Chennai.

For those who are not aware, Dirt Track racing is all about high speed riding around a specified course with a mass start, the riders have to negotiate a winding course, sometimes gravel laden and slushy, over a number of laps and the one coming in first is the winner.

Already in the first round which was held at Mangalore on 15th & 16th April 2006 C. S. Santhosh of TVS Racing Team has accumulated 40 points & Hafeeur Rehman  has accumulated 20 points  in their Indian Expert Championship - Motorcycles Above 250cc Group B Class – 2 & 4  Strokes & Novice   Championship Motorcycle Above 80cc Upto 150cc Group D - 2 stroke respective classes.

Rustom Patel will try and maintain his position in Private Expert Championship -Motorcycles Above 80cc Upto 150cc Group B Class – 2 Strokes Class, However he will face a tough competition here in Chennai.

The action pack event will be staged at St. Georges School, Punimalee Road, Kil Pauk – Chennai and will be flagged off on 23rd July at 9:00 am. Practice and qualifying will be on 22nd July. Though the championship has reached the second leg, it is open to all riders

This is the second year in row that Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd has sponsored this National Championship.   It is for the first time that GOCL has brought its championship round to Chennai.

Total of 5 rounds are held in a year. As per the position of the participants they are awarded points.  In the end of the last round all the points accumulated will be added and the National Champion will be declared.  The third, fourth and fifth rounds will be held at Raipur, Nasik and Jaipur on  16th & 17th September 2006, 11th & 12th November 2006  and 9th &10th December 2006 respectively.

Sportscraft - Mumbai, will organize the event under the aegis of Federation of Motor  Sport Clubs of India.

In the following classes the points garnered from the same will be counted over the five rounds of the Championship:

Indian Expert Class: Motorcycles upto 150cc 2-stroke, Group 'B' and Motorcycles upto 250cc 4-stroke, Group 'B';

Foreign Motorcycles upto 250cc 2 & 4-stroke, Group 'A'.

Private Expert class: Motorcycles above 80cc upto 150cc 2-stroke Group 'B'

Foreign Motorcycles upto 250cc 2 & 4-stroke Group 'A'.

There are special Championship classes for the Novice rider.

1.Motorcycles above 80cc upto 150cc 2-stroke Group 'D'

2.Motorcycles upto 125cc 4-Stroke Group 'D

3.Motorcycles above 125cc upto 160cc 4-stroke Group ' D’

There will also be other races held simultaneously for scooters & Local riders, though they will not be counted in the Championship rounds.

A maximum of 25 entries per classification – modified and unmodified vehicles in various classes will be accepted on first come basis.
