JK Tyre forms consortium with Maruti, General Motors & Hyundai

JK Tyre set off its 10th consecutive year of National Racing Championship in India

New Delhi, August 10, 2006: Indian Motorsports never had it better. In an unprecedented development, which is slated to seize Indian motorsports to newer echelons, JK Tyre today announced the formation of new consortium with Maruti, General Motors & Hyundai to promote motorsports in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raghupati Singhania, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, JK Industries, said, “At the helm of a new deal, I am sure, this association will push motorsports in India to new highs taking our partnership and our commitment to motorsports to greater prospect”, “Our National Racing Championship which, in its 10th consecutive year, will be an ideal platform for our talents to hone and test their skills. Along the way, I am sure that we will together discover new talents who have the potential to excel in the domestic as well as international motor sports arena”’ Mr. Singhania, further added.

In a strategic alliance, these automotive giants have principally agreed to partner JK Tyre to promote motorsports in India, providing engines of their best selling cars for JK Tyre National Racing Championships. Also launched on the occasion was JK Tyre’s newly designed “Formula Tyres”, specially created for these powerful machines.

These formula machines*, conceived and built by B Vijaykumar, Managing Director of LG Balakrishna & Bros will also ensure that motor racing in India will graduate to the next level, putting us technologically at par of level 3 races in the world. It will provide astonishing exposure to young Indian talents domestically, at 1/10th of the international cost, ensuring their bright future.

On the occasion, JK Tyre also set off its 10th National Racing Championship, which is scheduled to kick start from August 20, 2006. The championship, which forms an important part of JK Tyre’s racing programme has been the breeding ground for many racing champions like Karun, Armaan for a decade in India.

JK Tyre has been instrumental is promoting motorsports in India along with its “JK Tyre Motorsports Racing Programme” which has nurtured talents in a “step-by-step progression” methodology, which includes the National Karting championship, Junior cup, National Racing Championship and then to international levels like Asian Series, Formula Three, Formula Two, and so on, making motorsports an accomplishable dream of by taking up the financial responsibility for its sponsored talents.

This year’s championship will witness the evolution of the teams like WSRF, Meco Motorsports, Prime Racing and Rams Racing, which are all set to lay their conquest for the grand title. This year’s championship will also mark the much-awaited entry of Team NK, comprising of race drivers handpicked by none other than Narain Karthikeyan himself.

The Championship will be organised by JK Tyre in association with Madras Motor Sports Club and LG Sports.
