Banajee and Saran Vikram dominated the proceedings
on by securing double pole positions in qualifying rounds for the Formula LGB
Hyundai and Formula LGB Swift categories. But it was the veteran racer Akbar
Ebrahim stealing the thunder with a pole win in the premium Formula
Rolon Chevrolet category. Akbar was making his first outing
on his comeback trail to motor sports. He had the fastest lap timing of 01:10:730.
The much-awaited premium Indian formula racing vehicle – the Formula Rolon
vehicles powered by Chevrolet engines - were seen in action for the first time
as the qualifying races for the 2nd leg of the J K Tyre National Racing Championship
2006 got underway at the Kari Motor Speedway earlier today. It was the first
leg of races for Formula Rolon Chevrolet in the championship as these vehicles
did not feature in the 1st leg due to late arrival of components from abroad.
Formula LGB Hyundai class saw Pune racer Rayomand Banajee of
Team Meco Sports taking double pole with lap timings of 01:13:038
and 01.12.5 respectively. And in the Formula LGB Swift category it was once
again the young boy from Chennai & Team Wallace Sports Saran Vikram
in fine form as he annexed the pole positions for Race 1 & 2 with
the fastest lap timings of 01:12:315 & 01:12:003 respectively.

In the
Formula Rolon Chevrolet category the late arrival of tyres delayed the qualifying
races in this category following which only one qualifying session for Race
1 was held today. The qualifying round for Race 2 will be held before the main
races tomorrow.
The main races will commence at 10.30 am tomorrow, 10th Sep 2006.
