JK Tyre National Racing Championship It's
racing time in Chennai again |
The formula car racing season in Chennai all set to start with a bang as the racing action shifts from Coimbatore to Chennai with the third leg of the J K Tyre National Racing Championship 2006 being held this weekend at the MMST track at Irrungattukottai. This action packed weekend promises to be a thriller with the cream of Indian racing renewing their battle after two tough outings in Coimbatore .
The qualifying
rounds will be held on Saturday, 23rd September and the main races will take
place on Sunday 24th September.
Making its debut on the Chennai track will India's new premium racing machine
- Formula Rolon powered by a Chevrolet engine - which made its debut on the
Indian racing scene in Coimbatore along with Formula LGB Hyundai and Formula
LGB Swift. These new racing beauties are machines that have now propelled Formula
racing in India to great heights. The Indian motor sport fans will now see high
quality racing at its fastest speed ever on Indian tracks.
Over 40 racers drawn from various parts of the country will be seen in action
this weekend. Among those who will be seen in action will be Team NK
consisting of Ameya Walavalkar, Aditya Akkineni, Akhil Khushlani
and Aditya Patel, while leading the challenge for
Team Meco Racing will be Akbar Ebrahim former
international racer and father of racing prodigy Armaan Ebrahim along with last
year's champion Rayomand Banajee, Gautam Maini and
young Ashwin Sunder. Team WSRF's eleven will
feature one of the oldest participants - 58 year old Mr.Harvijay Bahia
apart from last year's champion Amitraji Ghosh and
JK Tyre Junior Cup 2006 Champion Ajay Kini.
Gaurav Gill the new sensation and the only driver in India
who is rallying and racing professionally. For the participants in Formula Rolon
Chevrolet category this will be the 2nd leg as the first leg in this category
was held during the 2nd round of the championship. Gaurav Gill of
Team Wallace Sports is currently ahead with 19 points followed
by Gaurav Dalal of Team Prime Racing with13
points. Akbar Ebrahim of Team NK Racing is in third place with
11 points.

FORMULA ROLON CHEVROLET IN ACTION
At the
end of Round 2, it is Team Wallace Sports in the lead in Formula
LGB Swift class with Saran Vikram, Ajay Kini and Saahil
Shelar having notched up 42, 30 and 23 points respectively. Rayomand
Banajee of Team Meco leads in Formula LGB
Hyundai with a tally of 38 points. Ajay Kini and Gaurav
Gill – both from Wallace Sports – are
in 2nd and 3rd places with 29 and 21 points respectively.
The event is organized by the Madras Motor Sports Club. For
the first time the racing enthusiasts will be able to witness the races from
their vehicles thanks to the special parking area for vehicles that has been
arranged by the club.
