2006 JK Tyre National Racing Championship Round 3 : 23-24 Sep 2006 : Chennai Double pole for Gaurav Gill, Rayomand Banajee & Ashwin Sunder

Delhi racer and Rally Champion Gaurav Gill of Team Wallace Sports stole the thunder in the premium Formula Rolon Chevrolet category by taking double pole on qualifying day for the 3rd leg of the J K Tyre National Racing Championship 2006 being held at the MMST Track in Irrungattukottai near Chennai today. Gill timed the fastest lap of 01:54:974 in Race 1. Starting 2nd and 3rd will be Gaurav Dalal and Akbar Ebrahim of Team Prime Racing and Team Speed NK Racing respectively. In Race 2 he had the fastest lap of 01:55:062. Starting 2 nd and third will be Akhil Khushlani and Ameya Walavalkar of Team NK Racing.

Young sensation Ashwin Sunder of Team Meco was back in form as he qualified for pole positions in both the races for the Formula LGB Swift category. Ashwin timed the fastest laps of 01:58:34 and 01:59:46 respectively. Championship leader Saran Vikram of Team Wallace Sports had to settle for 2 nd place in the grid for both races.

In the Formula LGB Hyundai category it was double pole for Team Meco with Rayomand Banajee taking the pole for Race 1 with the fastest lap timing of 02:00:865. In Race 2 Ashwin Sunder did finish with the fastest lap but was relegated 3 places down following a technical infringement resulting in Rayomand Banajee being elevated to pole position.

The new formula racing cars are making their maiden appearance in Chennai after 2 rounds in Coimbatore.

The main races will commence tomorrow (Sunday 24th Sep) at 10.30 am .
