2006 JK Tyre National Racing Championship Round 6 : 23rd & 24th Dec 2006 : Chennai Gaurav Gill, Rayomand Banajee & Saran Vikram crowned National Champions

Ashwin Sunder, Gaurav Gill, Rayomand Banajee,
Ajay Kini and Sarosh Hataria share honors in 6th leg

The final day of the current formula car racing saw a a combination of youth and experience taking the honors in all three categories of the J K Tyre National Racing Championship 2006 which concluded at the MMST Track at Irrungattukottai near Chennai today. Gaurav Gill, Rayomand Banajee and Saran Vikram are the new national champions in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet, Formula LGB Hyundai and Formula LGB Swift categories respectively.

Race 1 in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet category saw a tough tussle between the two Gauravs – Gill and Dalal as they raced neck to neck in the first 3 laps until Gill broke away and went on build up a considerable lead. Despite his best efforts Chennai’s Gaurav Dalal could just not match the speed the racer from Gill of Delhi racing for Team Wallace Sports and had to settle for 2nd place. Ameya Walavalkar of Team Speed NK Racing who was in the 3rd place till the last lap failed to complete the race and in the process enabled Anand Prasad of Team Gemini Racing to finish 3rd. Race 2 saw Chennai racer and former racing champion Sarosh Hataria of Team Wallace Sports clinching the first place for his first win this season. Mumbai racer Ameya Walavalkar of Team Speed NK Racing and Chennai youngster Aditya Patel of Team Amaron NK finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Race 1 in the Formula LGB Hyundai category saw championship leader and Pune racer Rayomand Banajee of Team Meco starting in pole position off to a flying start. Rayomand built up a good lead and held on to it till the end to notch up yet another fine win. Finishing in second place was Chennai lad Ajay Kini from Wallace Sports while Ashwin Sunder also from Chennai and Team Gemini Racing finished 3rd. It was the turn of Ashwin Sunder to come up with an impressive performance to claim the honors in Race 2. Championship winner Rayomand Banajee finished second while veteran racer from Coimbatore C. Rajaram of Team Prime Racing took the third slot.

In the Formula LGB Swift category Ajay Kini of Team Wallace Sports starting 2nd on pole did extremely well to move past pole leader Ashwin Sunder to develop a good lead to eventually clinch Race 1. Championship leader Saran Vikram from Chennai and Team Wallace Sports starting 7th on the grid demonstrated his driving skills to move up and finish a very remarkable second. B. Vijay Kumar of Team Prime Racing finished 3rd. Pole leader Ashwin Sunder had to pull out in the 8th lap following vehicle problems. Race 2 saw Ashwin Sunder in full glory as he literally blazed the tracks to record a great win with a margin of over 11 seconds. An interesting tussle between Mumbai racer Sahil Shelar of Team Rams Racing and Ajay Kini saw Sahil finishing ahead in 2nd place. Ajay Kini had to be content with a 3rd place finish.
