2006 JK Tyre National Racing Championship Round 6 : 23rd & 24th Dec 2006 : Chennai Final Countdown begins Double pole for Gaurav Gill, Rayomand Banajee & Ashwin Sunder

The countdown for the final round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship began today at the MMST Track at Irrungattukottai near Chennai today. Championship leaders Gaurav Gill and Rayomand Banajee continued their good run in the Formula Rolon Chevrolet and Formula LGB Hyundai category while Ashwin Sunder stole the show in Formula LGB Swift.

Formula Rolon Chevrolet class saw the continuing domination of Gaurav Gill from Delhi. Racing for Team Wallace Sports, Gill had no problems in setting up the fastest lap to grab the pole position for Race 1 with a timing of 01:52:726. Gill came up with a repeat performance to take the pole in Race 2 also with a timing of 01:53:024.

Rayomand Banajee from Pune and racing for Team Meco had field day as he annexed pole position for both the races in Formula LGB Hyundai category. Rayomand had the fastest lap timings of 01:58:855 and 01:59:293 respectively. Starting 2nd in the grid in both races will be young Chennai lad Ashwin Sunder from Team Gemini Racing.

Formula LGB Swift category saw Ashwin Sunder stealing the show and in the process grabbed pole positions for the races. Ashwin had the fastest lap timings of 01:57:184 and 01:57:596 for Race 1 and 2 respectively. Another promising youngster from Chennai Ajay Kini did well to annex the 2nd grid position for both the races. Saran Vikram from Chennai and from Team Wallace Sports who has already sealed the championship in this class had a relaxed outing today finishing 4th in Race 1 and 7th in Race 2.

India’s top racing duo Narain Karthikeyan & Karun Chandhok will be seen in action guiding their respective teams.

Races will commence tomorrow at 11 am.
