1st Racing Cup 2006 Finals : 4th June 2006 : Chennai Crowning Glory for Ajay Kini

It was the time of glory for Ajay Kini of Team Valvoline from Chennai as he wrapped up the inaugural version of the JK Tyre Racing Cup 2006 for the Formula Maruti category at MMST racing track at Irrungattukottai near Chennai today. Ajay with an almost unbeatable lead at the beginning of the final round today needed only a finish in the top 8 to ensure that the crown was his. He made no mistakes as he drove to a facile win in Race 1.

Race 1 saw Ajay Kini starting from pole losing the lead in the very 1st lap to Deepak R. The duo then had a fascinating duel for the first place with Deepak leading till lap 4 after which Ajay regained the lead. Ajay Kini drove well to ensure that he held the lead till the very end to take the chequered flag. Deepak finished in 2nd place while Saran Vikram Tmars came in third.

Race 2 saw a spirited effort from Saran Vikram Tmars as he got off to a blistering start to move up into the lead in lap 1. Ajay Kini was relegated to 4th place with both Deepak and Vignesh Devarajan putting up a tremendous fight for the 2nd and 3rd places. However in lap 6 Ajay clawed his way back to 3rd place and retained the slot till the end of the race. Deepak finished in 2nd place, while Vignesh had settle for 4th place.

Earlier in the day the qualifying session saw Ajay Kini annexing the pole position. Taking 2nd and 3rd positions in the grid were Deepak R. and Saran Vikram Tmars respectively.

This successful racing event, which was the brainchild of JK Tyre and Madras Motor Sports Club, gave youngsters an opportunity to race at an affordable cost. Many youngsters racing for the first time had 3 exciting weekends of racing.
