For the 8 racers from
India and 17 from Sri Lanka, it was a day of furious practice sessions as
the 25 competitors went all out to grab the much needed practice. Due to
the late arrival of the entire group, the practice timings had to be rescheduled.
To enable all the drivers to have sufficient practice with neighbours Sri
Lankans in the fray, the qualifying races have been scheduled from 9.30
am onwards on Sunday 5th February 2006. The main races consisting of 15
laps each will be held at 1115 hrs and 1300 hrs respectively.
Race I will feature 8 racers each from India and Sri Lanka while race 2
will feature 8 racers from India and nine from Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan team will see former international drivers like Rohan De
Silva and upcoming racers Romani De Silva and Dinesh Jayawardene and Dejan
Zoysa among others in action. The lone eve to feature in these races will
be 26 year Ms. Sherara Jayawardene who is the daughter of Rohan De Silva.
Leading the Indian challenge will be a combination of experienced and youth.
Ameya Walavalkar, Aditya Khushlani, Saahil Shelar and Aditya Patel and veteran
racer B. Vijay Kumar are part of the Indian team.
J K Tyres who have also been the first to promote new ventures
in Indian motor sport have come forward to sponsor the event and supply
the tyres free of cost.
There will also be a two hour endurance for motorcycles which will be held after the car races on Sunday. Noted Indian riders will be participating in the endurance race meet.
