Ashwin Sunder & K.Rajini crowned National Champions in 2 categories each

P. Karthik wins four races in 6th leg

Ashwin Sunder (left) and K. Rajini (right) emerged as 2006 National Road Racing Champions in 2 categories each of the Ucal Rolon National Racing Championship 2006 - an approved FMSCI National Championship which concluded earlier today with the final round which was held at the MMST track at Irrungattukottai. The entire day’s proceedings were dominated by Team TVS Racing. The races also saw the mergence of P.Karthik of Team TVS who stole the show with four facile wins.

Championship class

Race 1 in the Group D 4 stroke 80 to 110 cc class saw a brilliant effort from young sensation Ashwin Sunder of Team TVS. Starting 4th on the grid Ashwin shot into the lead in the very first lap and never looked back as he went to record another great win. Despite his best efforts pole leader Emmanuel Clarke of Team TVS could not regain the lead and had to be content with a 2nd place finish. P.Karthik also from Team TVS finished 3rd. Race 2 saw P. Karthik of Team TVS completing an emphatic win. Once again Emmanuel Clarke had to settle for 2nd place while Harry Sylvester came in 3rd.

Race 1 in Group D 4 stroke 111 to 160 cc saw the consistency of P. Karthik of Team TVS paying off as he pulled off an upset victory forcing team mates pole leader Ashwin Sunder and 2nd in grid K. Rajini to settle for 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Race 2 saw Ashwin Sunder bounce back as he raced away to a splendid win pushing teammates P.Karthik and Harry Sylvester to 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

Race 1 in the Group B 4 stroke 111 – 160 cc class saw the continuing domination of K. Rajini of Team TVS as he raced away to yet another tremendous win. Team mates Preetham Dev Moses and P. Karthik finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Race 2 was reduced to 3 laps as it was almost past near sunset and visibility was poor. In the shortened race it was an all TVS affair as Preetham Dev Moses, K. Rajini and P. Karthik finished in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

In Group C 2 stroke 111 to 150 cc category it was K.Rajini of Team TVS in fine fettle as he took the chequered flag in Race 1. Finishing in second place was last year’s champion of champions T.K.Vishwanath of Team Yamaha Racing for whom this was disappointing year. Preetam Dev Moses of Team TVS came in third. Race 2 saw a repeat result of Race 1 with all three retaining the same places.

K. Umesh Babu starting last on the grid in 9th place came up with an immaculate performance to zoom up the grid to record a remarkable win in the moped category. Gopal finished 2nd while E. Murugan came in 3rd.

Novice classes

In the Group D 2 stroke 111 to 150 cc for Novices, K.Umesh Babu topped the slot in Race 1 while S.Raj Kumar took the honors in Race 2. P.Rajini took the chequered flag in Race 1 of the Group C 2 stroke 111 to 150 cc class also for Novices.

It was double slams for M.Sudhakar and R. Deepak as they took the chequered flag in both races of the Group D 4 stroke 80 to 110 cc and 111 to 160 cc classes.
