Countdown begins for crowning of the 2006 National Champions
With the
rain God finally relenting it and after a delay of 5 weeks, it is finally time
for the crowning of the national champions in various categories as the 6th
and final round of the UCAL ROLON National Road Racing Championship
2006 for 2 wheelers gets underway this weekend at the MMST track at
Sriperumbudur near Chennai. In action, for the final time this year, will be
the cream of India’s two wheeler racers. Qualifying sessions will be on
2nd Dec while the
main races will take place on Sunday 3rd December.
With the top slots in the experts’ category already being captured, the
focus will be on the 2nd and 3rd place finishes in most of the classes. Team
TVS Racing which has been in dominating form through out this season
is all set for a glorious finish in the championship.
Expert
categories
Group D 4 stroke 80 to 110 cc - Excellent performances in
the first 5 rounds has helped the young sensation Ashwin Sunder build
up a unbeatable lead of 59 points over his nearest rival P. Karthick
in the overall championship tally. Ashwin’s points tally now
stands at 197. In very distant 2nd & 3rd places are P.Karthick and Harry
Sylvester with 138 and 125 points respectively. With Emmanuel
Clarke in 4th place with 114 points it will a three way fight for the
2nd and 3rd places in the championship.
Group D 4 stroke 111 to 160 cc - This championship class has
also been sealed by Ashwin Sunder having amassed a total of
179 points. Confirming the runner up position in the championship is K.
Rajini with 150 points. Emmanuel Jebaraj and P.
Karthick with 103 and 101 points will fight it out for the 3rd place.
Group B 4 stroke 111 - 160 cc - In this category the top 2
slots have been sealed by K.Rajini -183 points and Preetam
Dev Moses -158 points Emmanuel Jebaraj with 101 points
is in a extremely far third position.
Group C 2 stroke 111 to 150 cc - It has been a good run for
K. Rajini who has now built up an unbeatable lead in this class.
Rajini has accumulated 160 points and is way ahead. However a battle royal is
on the cards as 3 racers – Preetam Dev Moses, Ashwin
Sunder and T.K.Vishwanath with 115, 114 and 112 points
– fight it out for the 2nd and 3rd places. This has been an unfortunate
season for the champion of champions in 2005 T. K. Vishwanath.
Novice Classes
In the Group D 4 stroke 80 to 110 cc category, it will be a
stiff fight between A. Vinoth Kumar and the lone lady racer
Alisha Abdullah with just 3 points separating them. Vinoth
has 114 points against Alisha’s 111.
In the 111
to 160 cc class of the same category A. Deepak and
S. Kumar share the lead in with 113 points apiece. A.
Murugan leads in the Group D 2 stroke 111 to 150 cc class have
amassed 115 points. Also in reckoning for the top spot is 2nd placed K.Umesh
Babu who is only 9 points behind with a tally of 106.
In the moped class K.Vinoth with 74 points has established
an unbeatable lead in the moped category.
There will be two races each in TVS Race a Bike scheme in Fiero
and Victor categories. These races will be held on Friday and Saturday –1
st & 2nd December. Demo runs on Sunday featuring 1000 cc imported bikes,
Rajdoot 350cc and Enfield Bullet 350 cc will be an additional highlight.
The main races start at 9 am on Sunday, 3rd December. Entry for the public is
free.
Madras Motor Sports Club is organizing this event under the aegis of the FMSCI
(The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India).
