UCAL RALLY FOR THE BLIND : Chennai : January 29, 2006
Sunday,
29th January will be a special day for motor sports enthusiasts as
the Rally for the Blind gets underway in Chennai. Conducted by the Madras Motor
Sports Club in association with the National Association for the Blind, this
event sponsored by UCAL Fuel Systems is being held for the 14th time in as many
years.
Based on a TSD (Time, Speed & Distance) format, the rally will run in and
around Chennai city and its suburbs covering a distance of around 80 + kms in
a duration of approximately 3 hours. The Rally will start from the Gymkhana
Club with the first vehicle being flagged off at 09 30 hours. The Prize distribution
will be held at the same venue at 15 30 hours.
The highlight of this event is one which has a social message attached; you
are helping a visually handicapped person enjoy the thrills of a motor sport
event. This gives the visually handicapped a feeling of belonging to the mainstream
of life. As such, by participating, you enjoy a rally as well as give something
special to the visually handicapped navigator who will read out the instructions
in Braille. There will be prizes in 4 categories – experts, regular, novice
and all ladies. Teams who have won earlier will be classified in the experts
category.
Anyone with a civil driving license can take part. There is no restriction on
the make/type of car to be used. The maximum number of persons in a car including
the navigator is restricted to four.
Entry fee is Rs. 500/- per vehicle and the last date for receipt of entries
is 27th January 2006. Briefing and pairing of competitors will take place at
4 pm on Saturday, 28th January at the Punjab Association, Peters Road, opposite
New College, Royapettah, Chennai 600 014
