GULF MONSOON SCOOTER RALLY
25th June 2006

Some of the best two-wheeler riders will be seen in action in the 16th Monsoon Scooter Rally, sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation Limited and organized by Sportscraft, under the aegis of The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.

The monsoon challenge, popularly known as Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally, because of the company’s patronage for the sixth successive year, will be held on June 25 along the backwoods of Vashi – Nerul - Belepur.

Having lost out last year to Manjit Singh Bassan because of a technicality, the event offers Rustom Patel a chance for revenge.

It must be recalled that in the last edition in July 2005, Rustom finished with the best time but was disqualified after it was detected during the mandatory post-event scrutiny of the vehicle that he had made an illegal modification on his scooter. Thus Manjit Singh, who placed second, was elevated to first place.

Also in the fray is another former champion Shamim Khan, who should give both Manjit and Rustom a run for their money. Then there are also seasoned campaigners in Badal Doshi who should make an interesting battle.

With heavy rain expected as always, the going is certainly going to be tough for the 40 riders expected to confirm participation. The route plotted by Sportscraft is, needless to say, dicey and bound to put competitors to the stiffest test.

First timers, particularly, should be ready to take a tumble or two while negotiation the rocky and slushy stretches that one is bound to encounter along the competitive stages.
