The fifth round of the 1st JK Tyre Racing Cup got off to a flying start under bright and humid weather conditions today at the Irrungattukottai Race Track near Chennai. 18 competitors from all over the country made up the grid for the Formula Maruti category.

Race 1 saw the championship leader Ajay Kini positioned 2nd in the grid shooting off to a good start and moving up past pole leader R.Deepak in C1 of the first lap. Ajay consolidated his lead to win the 8 lap racing very convincingly with a margin of almost 9 seconds against his nearest rival Deepak. Saran Vikram Tmars who stole the thunder in Round 3 and 4 was unimpressive today despite finishing 3rd.

Race 2 saw 2nd in grid Ajay Kini once gain shooting into the lead in the very first lap and holding on to it till lap 2 after which he fell back to 3rd position only to drop out of the race in lap 4 following engine problems. Pole leader Deepak made the best of this unexpected opportunity to drive a good race to take the chequered flag. Vignesh Devaraj did well to finish in 2nd place while Saran Vikram once again had to settle for the third place.

Earlier in the qualifying races R. Deepak of Chennai grabbed the pole position with the fastest timing of 01:15:545. Championship leader Ajay Kini took 2nd place in the grid while Saran Vikram Tmars qualified for 3rd place
