Sepang : Malaysia : June 24, 2007 Armaan Ebrahim soaked in the pressure to perfection by winning the Formula Renault V6 Grand Race held at the F1 Sepang circuit in Malaysia today.
After having won the sprint race yesterday starting from 4th on the grid, Armaan started today’s race from Pole position. The warm up this morning went well for Armaan as his engineer Patrick Roberts tuned the car to near perfection. A few practice starts during the warm up got Armaan well settled for the Grand Race which started at 1.45 pm Malaysian time in the sweltering heat with track temperatures reaching close to 50 degrees centigrade. Marchy Lee from Hong Kong, James Winslow from the UK, Earl Bamber from New Zealand and Seth Ingram from USA were all set to make up for yesterday’s race. Armaan got off the line with a perfect start and had a 10 metre gap going into the first corner. By lap 3, Armaan had pulled out a 4 second lead over Marchy Lee. By lap 10 Armaan had a 15 second lead and continued to hammer the throttle down. Armaan’s times throughout the 20 lap race over the 5.6 km long circuit was a treat to watch as he was continuously in the 2 min 01 sec lap times for the entire 20 laps. Something which is most crucial for a quality driver.
Team TARA-DTM had a fantastic outing this weekend with their driver Armaan Ebrahim winning both races. Commented Armaan : Firstly, I have to thank the Almighty for helping me and guiding me through difficult moments and giving me the opportunity to take 2 wins. I would then like to thank my entire team for bending their backs for me to see to it that I had a reliable and perfect car for the race. Pady was fantastic as usual and Fabien, my team manager was the perfect balance in ensuring that everything was in order and also keeping my dad’s blood pressure at bay. I was really happy with the Grand Final race as I was determined to drive all the 20 laps as hard as possible. It is easy to loose concentration when you have a big lead and I just decided to hammer the throttle down for all the 20 laps. Finally, I would like to thank my sponsors, JK TYRES, AMARON, BPCL-SPEED, ELF and ANAND CINE for supporting my racing career till date. Most importantly, I would like to thank my team Chairman, Mr Helmi Abdullah who has been the backbone for me from the start of this championship. And Finally-Finally, I would like to say, it was just fantastic to have my Dad, Mum, Sister, Aunt and Uncles around to give me all the support that I needed. I now sign off and would like to put my head down and focus on the next race. Commented Fabien Fior-Team Manager : After feeling robbed of the win last event, it’s a relief to have not only win in the first Asian Formula V6 race this week end but also going on to win with a 30 seconds lead the all important grand race. I’d like to congratulate Armaan on his perfect drive and all his family and sponsors for their support. ** END ** |
