After Chennai racer Narain Shankar’s dominating performance
in Round 1 yesterday it was the turn of Delhi lad Karthik Shankar
from Team Wallace Sports to take the honors in race 1 of Round 2
of the J K Tyre Junior Racing Cup which was held today at the Madras
Motor Race Track at Irungattukottai near Chennai. Starting from
pole in a grid of 16 Formula Maruti cars, Karthik Shankar shot into
the lead and did lose momentum till the finish. Building up a good
lead, Karthik took the chequered flag far ahead of his nearest competitor
and team mate Rohit Khanna from Bangalore with a margin difference
of almost 10 seconds. Yesterday’s hero Narain Shankar had
the misfortune of going out the race in the very first lap when
he swerved to avoid being hit by Delhi racer Rohit Khanna who was
subsequently penalized with 10 seconds addition in his overall timings.
This pushed Rohit to
4th place and the process Bangalore racer Sudarshan Rao of Team
Rams Racing moved up to second place. Another Delhi racer Kapil
Khanna also racing for Team Wallace Sports took the third place.
Karthik also had the fastest lap timing of 01:14:326.
