Rally for the Blind
28th Jan 2007, Chennai
The
final Sunday in the month of January has always been a special day for
motor sports enthusiasts in Chennai. And this year was no different
as the Rally for the Blind got underway for the 15th successive year.
Based on a TSD (Time, Speed & Distance) format, the rally took place
in Chennai and its suburbs covering a distance of approximately 52 kms
in duration of approximately 3 hours. The rally started from the Gymkhana
Club with the first vehicle being flagged off by writer and social activist
Kanimozhi at 09.30 hours.
The event saw a total of 36 entries in the fray. The prize distribution
was held at the same venue at 15.30 hours. Mr. Iida, Joint Managing
Director, Ucal Fuel Systems gave away the prizes.
The highlight of this event was to help a visually handicapped person
enjoy the thrills of a motor sport event and give them a feeling of
belonging to the mainstream of life. It was something special to the
visually handicapped navigator who read out the instructions in Braille.
