of Team WSRF with Leela takes honors on Day 1
Round
two of the 3rd edition of the J K Tyre Junior Racing Cup got
of to a good start with 15 young riders in the fray fighting it out
for honors in the Formula Maruti category. It was Goutham Parekh
of Team WSRF with Leela stealing the thunder as he won the
first 2 races in style. In the final race of the day, it was Goutham’s
team mate Suhail Sabharwal who emerged a comfortable
winner.
Having qualified in pole position for Race 1, the final year engineering
student from Chennai lead from the front after capitalizing on a good
start to gain a comfortable lead. The battle for 2nd and 3rd places
saw a grueling duel between Rohit Khanna and Suhail
Sabharwal with Rohit ultimately nudging past
Suhail to finish second..
In Race 2 it was yet another astounding performance from Goutham
Parekh. Starting in 6th place after the winning grid order
of Race 1 was reversed, Goutham zoomed up the ladder
to record a remarkable win - his second win of the day. Finishing in
2nd and 3rd places were racers from Team WSRF with Leela Prithveen
Rajan and Suhail Sabharwal.
Race 3 saw the winner of the first two races Goutham Parekh
run into a stroke of misfortune after vehicle problems forced
him to withdraw midway. It was left to his team mate Suhail
Sabharwal to race away to very comfortable win. Finishing in
2nd and 3rd places were Sudanand Rajan and Prithveen
Rajan - also from Team WSRF with Leela.
Like the previous two events, this edition of the JK Tyre Racing
Cup will also be a forerunner to the next JK Tyre National
Racing Championship. These events have been providing ample
opportunities to young racers to hone their skills and gain experience
which will help them to be on an even footing when they race with the
racing stars in the big events.
The final two races of this championship will be held between 10 am
and 12 .30 pm on Sunday, 30th December 2007. Entry for the public is
free.
