3rd Racing Cup 2007 |
Final
round on 22nd & 23rd December |
Exciting
fare is on the cards as the final round of the 3rd edition of JK
Tyre Junior Racing Cup gets underway this weekend at the Madras
Motor Race Track at Irungattukottai near Chennai. With five more races
to go, the championship is wide open with none of the contenders having
established a winning lead.
The top five positions in the overall championship positions at the
end of Round 1 have all gone to the racers from Team WSRF with
Leela. Delhi lad Kapil Khanna heads the table
with 29.5 points followed by Prithveen Rajan of Chennai
with 20.5 points. In third place is another Chennai racer Goutham
Parekh with 19.5 points while another Delhi racer Sumit
Maluja takes the 4th position with 18 points. Vinoth
from Chennai is in 5th place with 17 points.
This 10 race event is being held in two rounds in the Formula Maruti
category which is basically for beginners and young racing enthusiasts
who have not won a race in the last two years.
The final round consists of five races with 10 laps each. Day 1 (Saturday)
will feature 3 races while Day 2 (Sunday) will have 2 races.
The best 8 out of 10 results will count for the cup. Grid position for
the first race of each round will be decided in the qualifying rounds.
The grid for the next four races of the weekend will decided as follows:
For Race 2 the top six results of Race 1 will be reversed, i.e. the
driver finishing first will start will start from sixth place while
the driver finishing 6th will start first. The same reversal grid formation
procedure will be followed for the next three races, which could mean
that no grid will be the same for the 5 races in each round.
Like the previous two events, the JK Tyre Junior Racing Cup
will be a forerunner to the next JK Tyre National Racing
Championship which is slated to begin in early 2008. The JK
Tyre Junior Racing Cup is a joint effort between JK
Tyre and Madras Motor Sports Club and a continuous process
to promote car racing and to spot and encourage new talent apart from
providing growth opportunities for deserving young racers. This experience
will help them to be on an even footing when they race with the racing
stars in the big events.
