JK Tyre Junior Racing Cup 2007 Crown

The countdown for the finale of JK Tyre Junior Racing Cup has
begun after the four pulsating rounds. Scheduled for this weekend at the Madras
Motor Racing Track (MMRT) at Sriperumbudur near Chennai, the final two rounds
promises an action packed weekend for the racing buffs this summer.
Over 15 Formula Maruti cars will form the grid, which has been drawing youngsters
from various parts of the country. The fifth round will be held on Saturday,
2nd June and the sixth and final round will take place on Sunday, 3rd June.
Commenting on the same, Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Head Motorsports, JK Tyre
said, “It is our constant endeavor
to promote motorsports at all levels in the country. JK Tyre Junior Cup will
be an ideal platform to spot and encourage new talents and provide growth opportunities
for deserving young racers in the country”.
Organized jointly by Madras Motor Sports Club and J
K Tyre, the first 4 rounds have seen close tussles between the new
generation racers with fortunes fluctuating. Round 1 was completely dominated
by Narain Shankar of Team Rams Racing, while in Round 2 it was Karthik Shankar
from Team Wallace Sports who stole the thunder. Round 3 honors were annexed
by the duo from Team Rams Racing - Narain Shankar and Sudarshan Rao - both won
one race each. Round 4 saw Karthik Shankar back to his winning ways as he took
the podium in both the races.
With the points position tantalizingly poised it will be a fight of talent and
nerves as the battle for the crown reaches its zenith. It promises to be a battle
royale with only a couple of points separating the top 3 racers heading the
championship points table. Leading the pack is the Delhi lad Karthik Shankar
from Team Wallace Sports with 59 points. Breathing down his neck is the duo
from Team Rams Racing - Narain Shankar from Chennai and Sudarshan Rao from Bangalore
- in second and third places with 58 and 56 points respectively. Rohit Khanna,
Nischay and Kapil Khanna are in 4th, 5th and 6th places with 38, 29 and 24 points
respectively.
The two races for the fifth round will be split between the pre and post lunch
sessions while the final round will be held on Sunday in the pre lunch session.
