J K Tyre Junior Racing Cup 2007
Narain Shankar of Rams Racing crowned champion

It was celebration time in the Team Rams Racing camp as Narain Shankar (S. Narendran) annexed the championship title in the second edition of the J K Tyre Junior Racing Cup which concluded with the 6th and final round earlier today at the Madras Motor Racing Track at Irrungattukottai near Chennai. Narain had a tally of 87 point,. Sudarshan Rao with 75 points, Rohit Khanna with 71 points and Karthik Shankar with 67 points. However, as per the regulations, the best 10 performance are taken for the final points tally and accordingly, it was Narain whose best 10 totalled 85 points, with Sudarshan Rao 73 points, Karthik Shankar 67 points, Rohit Khanna with 66 points.

The curtains came down on an exciting six round event which saw fortunes fluctuating in every round. Round 1, 3, and 5 saw team Rams Racing taking the honors while it was the racers from Team Wallace Sports who dominated Round 2 and 4. The two teams shared the honors in Round 6. Today’s grid had 17 Formula Maruti racing cars lined up saw competitors from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Cochin and Chennai taking part.

Race 1 saw Chennai lad and pole leader Narain Shankar of Team Rams Racing seal the title with an emphatic win. An enthralling duel was witnessed between the Bangalore lad Sudarshan Rao of Team Rams Racing and Delhi lad Rohit Khanna of Team Wallace Sports for the 2nd place. The lead kept changing hands every lap till the 7th when Sudarshan Rao’s vehicle came to a sudden halt. By the time the vehicle was restarted Sudarshan had fallen to the back of the lot but with a tremendous drive he move up three places in the last lap to finish in 6th place. Rohit Khanna gleefully grabbed the opportunity to move ahead and finish 2nd. Delhi racer Sumit Maluja of Team Wallace sports finished 3rd. Narain also had the fastest lap timing of 01:13:499. One of the main contenders for the title Delhi youngster Karthik Shankar of Team Wallace Sports could note compete in this race due to mechanical problems.

Race 2 saw Rohit Khanna come up with a superlative effort as he cruised to a very comfortable win. Finishing in 2nd and 3rd places were Sumit Maluja and Kapil Khanna. Rohit Khanna had the fastest lap timing of 01:13:509. Unfortunately Narain Shankar could not start in this race as he came in late after the pit lane was closed.
