Chennai, 2nd June 2007 : Race report of Round 5 – J K Tyre Junior Racing Cup 2007

The seesaw battle for the championship title between the three contenders Karthik Shankar of Team Wallace Sports and the duo from Team Rams Racing Narain Shankar and Sudarshan Rao continued as the 5th round of the J K Tyre Junior Racing Cup 2007 got underway at the Madras Motor Racing Track (MMRT) at Sriperumbudur near Chennai today. 17 Formula Maruti racing cars lined up the grid today with participants from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Cochin and Chennai in the fray.

Race 1 saw the top three in the grid holding on to their respective positions from the start till the end of the race. Starting in pole, Bangalore lad Sudarshan Rao of Team Rams Racing built up a comfortable lead and had no difficulty in taking the chequered flag. He was closely followed by team mate and Chennai racer Narain Shankar who however fell back in the closing laps and had to be content with a second place finish. Delhi lad Rohit Khanna of Team Wallace Sports starting 4th in the grid moved up to finish in 3rd place. Championship leader and Delhi racer from Team Wallace Sports Karthik Shankar had a bad outing and despite timing the fastest lap of 01:13:25, had to settle for a distant 4th place.

Race 2 saw Narain Shankar of Team Rams Racing off to a good start which helped him move up past pole leader and team mate Sudarshan Rao and build up a good lead. Narain was able to retain the lead till the end. Delhi racer Rohit Khanna of Team Wallace Sports did well to take the 2nd place while Sudarshan Rao came in third. For the the Delhi racer Karthik Shankar it was yet another disappointing race as he could not complete the race due to mechanical problems.
