07th Oct : Aditya Patel became the first Formula Rolon
Chevrolet National Champion, while Ashwin Sundar claimed
the titles in both Formula LGB Swift and Formula LGB Hyundai categories
in the 10th JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship that
ended here today.
The final leg today also had its thrills as the Team Championships
were decided but Ashwin Sundar getting back to
the pits in the first race of Formula LGB Swift this morning denied
a double crown for his team Rams Racing, who finished
ahead of other teams for the title in the Formula LGB Hyundai category.
As for the Team Championships, Team Wallace Sports with
Leela, (Formula LGB Swift), Rams Racing (Formula
LGB Hyundai) and NK Racing (Formula Rolon Chevrolet
) were declared National Team Champions.
The sixth and final leg of the championship today at the MMST state
of the art 3.10 km track witnessed a tough fight in the Formula
Rolon Chevrolet category. However, it was Aditya Patel racing
for Team NK Racing who won the prestigious championship
title in this premium category with a second place on the podium
in Race 1 and winning the second race.
After a marathon effort lasting the entire six rounds Aditya’s
triumphant moment came when he finished second in the Race 1 after
a pulsating duel with team mate Saran Vikram. Starting
2nd on the grid, Aditya shot into the lead passing
pole leader Saran in the first lap. A hot chase
pursued in the sixth lap from an unrelenting Saran forced
Aditya lose the lead. There was no looking back
for Saran after this and he held grimly to the
slim lead to record a very close win. Finishing in 3rd place was
Sarosh Hataria of Prime Racing.
Race two saw the duo from NK Racing in full cry
with Aditya celebrating his title win taking the
chequered flag. Saran finished 2nd while J
D Madan of Gemini Racing finished third.
The Formula LGB Hyundai first race today was a clean sweep for Team
Gemini Racing as their trio of Rayomand Banajee,
Anand Prasad and Shankar Narayanan finished
1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. With pole leader Ashwin Sundar
of Rams Racing going out of the race after
3 laps due to vehicle problems, Rayomand got hold
of an unexpected opportunity and eventually made the best of it.
However Ashwin was back in his elements in Race
2 as he raced away to take his only win of the day. Team mate Narain
Shankar finished in 2nd place while Anand Prasad
of Gemini Racing came in third.
It was a dream comes true for Sudarshan Rao of
Teams Rams Racing as he achieved his maiden win
of the season by taking the chequered flag in Race 1 of the Formula
LGB Swift category relegating the Champion and team mate Ashwin
Sundar to second spot, while Saran Vikram of
Team WSRF with Leela came in third. Sudarshan
continued his dream run as he went on to annex his second
win taking the chequered flag in Race 2 without much ado to make
it a grand double. Finishing in 2nd and 3rd places were the young
duo (from Team WSRF with Leela) Ajay Kini
and Saran Vikram respectively. Despite
Sudarshan’s heroics, Team Rams Racing
had to settle for second place in the team championship
with Team WSRF with Leela taking the honors.
