UAM Asia Nations of Road Racing 2007 : Round 1 : Japan : 12-13 May 2007

Impressive debut by Ashwin Sundar


The first round of the UAM Asia Nations of Road Racing 2007 was held at the Tsukuba Circuit in Japan on 12-13 May 2007. Modelled on the lines of A1 GP Races, the first round saw riders nominated from India, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Phillipines and China.

The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) nominated the 2006 road racing Champion of Champions Ashwin Sundar to represent India.

In the qualifying session Ashwin had the fastest lap timing of 01:14:9 which put him in the 8th place in the grid of 18 racers. In Race 1, India's Ashwin finished in eighth place finishing 8 seconds behind the race winner. Race 2 saw a very close fight between the riders in 2nd to 9th places on the grid. Ashwin Sundar who started 8th did well to finish in 7th place in a race which saw these 8 racers engrossed in a very close tussle and taking the checkered flag in fractions of a second.

At the end of round 1 Thailand is leading the points table followed by Indonesia, China, Japan and India is in 5th place.
