Ashwin Sundar all set for racing in the international arena
Chennai’s
teenage racing sensation and currently India’s champion of champions in
bike racing Ashwin Sundar is now all set to enter the big league
in the international arena. Ashwin will be racing in two international events
this season - the UAM Asia Nations of Road Racing and the FIM Asian Grand Prix.
The UAM Asia Nations of Road Racing is modelled on the lines of the A1 GP races
wherein each and every member country of the UAM (Asian Motorcycle Union) which
is the Asian wing of the international federation viz. FIM are requested to
send a rider to represent the country and the race is between countries. Racers
from India, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines and China are among those competing
in this event featuring 150 cc 4 stroke bikes which is expected to have a grid
of around 20. The 1st round of this event will be held in Japan on 12th and
13th of this month. The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI)
which is India's FMNR has selected Ashwin Sundar to represent India in this
event.
Ashwin will also be racing in the FIM Asian Grand Prix in the 115 cc underbone
category. Ashwin will race for Team Petronas Sprinta Raceline which is managed
by former international racing champion Barry Leong who has several wins under
his belt in the 500 cc + bikes category.
This young lad who has just finished his 12th standard exams and wants to be
a automobile engineer is aiming to race in 125 cc world GP championship in a
couple of years from now. He is now aiming for a finish in the top three in
the above events.
Ashwin said that the support given by his sponsors Schwing Stetter India and
Yamaha India has been inspirational and extremely helpful and will go a long
way in helping him achieve stardom in international racing.
