10th June was a historic day in the annals of Indian motor sports when a young racer and several times champion on the national racing circuit Preetam Dev Moses won race 2 of the second round in the Malaysian Super Series - 600 cc expert category - the 1st Indian racer to do so at this high level - at the Sepang racing circuit - South.

The Chennai racer did well in the qualifying session to take 2nd place on the grid which had racers from Italy, Norway, Great Britain, Singapore & Malaysia in the fray.

Race 1 saw Preetam off to a flying star and take the lead in the very 1st lap at C1. After having built up a very comfortable lead by the 5th lap, Preetam had stroke of misfortune when the bottom fairing of his vehicle broke and fell off. In the process he was force to stop and remove the dangling part. When Preetam resumed the race he was placed in 5th place, but with a tenacious drive moved up two places to seal the 15 lap race with a 3rd place finish. Massimo Nanni of Italy and Nils Uchida Zakariasen of Norway took the first and second places respectively.

Race 2 saw a thrilling and fascinating duel between pole leader Massimo Nanni and Preetam leaving the others way behind. Massimo had a good start and held on to the lead till the 13th lap. Preetam took the lead in the first phase of the 14th lap only to lose it back in the very same lap. However Preetam made a master maneuver in the final lap at C1 to grab the lead back and take the chequered flag. Massimo swerved off the track in the last lap but regained ground to finish a distant 2nd.

The Indian racer’s 4th successive podium finish in the current season has placed him overall second in the championship standings with tally of 41 points which is just 4 short of the championship leader’s tally. Preetam had finished in 3rd place in both races of the first round which was held In Malaysia last month.

Preetam is now in search of full fledged sponsors who will help him achieve his goal. Urgent financial support is the need of the hour for this promising rider to achieve more honors for his country at the international bike level. His employer Airtel has sponsored his vehicle. He is also receiving support from TVS, VASIHNOVI Engineers and Wilsh Lubricants.
