RALLY FOR THE BLIND

The final
Sunday in the month of January has always been a special day for motor sports
enthusiasts in Chennai. And Sunday 28th January 2007 will that most looked forward
to day as the Rally for the Blind gets underway. Being conducted by the Madras
Motor Sports Club in association with the National Association
for the Blind, this event with sponsorship from UCAL Fuel Systems
is being held for the 15th time in as many years. This event will be held under
the aegis of The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI),
which is the National Sports Federation recognized by the Government of India.
The FMSCI, as per its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, has waived
off the permit and license fees for this event.
Based on a TSD (Time, Speed & Distance) format, the rally will run in Chennai
and its suburbs covering a distance of approximately 80 kms in duration of approximately
3 hours. The rally will start from the Gymkhana Club with the first vehicle
being flagged off at 09.30 hours. The prize distribution will be held at the
same venue at 15.30 hours.
The highlight of this event is one which has a social message attached; to help
a visually handicapped person enjoy the thrills of a motor sport event and give
them a feeling of belonging to the mainstream of life. By participating in this
event you give something special to the visually handicapped navigator who will
be reading out the instructions in Braille.
The event consists of four categories - expert, regular, novice and all ladies.
Teams which have won earlier will be classified in the expert category
Anyone with a civil driving license can take part. There is no restriction on
the make/type of car to be used. The maximum number of persons recommended in
a vehicle including the navigator is four adults.
Entry fee is Rs. 500/- per vehicle. Last date for entries is 27th January 2007.
Briefing and pairing of competitors will take place at 4 pm on Saturday 27th
January at the Punjab Association, Peters Road, (Opp New College) Royapettah,
Chennai 600 014.
