Round 1 in Coimbatore this week end

An official Press Conference was held today in Chennai for the launch of the UCAL ROLON National Road Racing Championship 2007 for two wheelers which gets underway this weekend at the Kari Motor Speedway track, at Chettipalayam in Coimbatore. Being organized by Meco Motorsports Private Ltd. and Madras Motor Sports Club, this Championship is being sponsored for the third successive year by the automotive giants Ucal Fuel Systems and Rolon Chains. This event is being held under the aegis of the FMSCI (The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India).

Over 100 riders will be seen in action in this year’s championship which will see the introduction of two new classes. In the fray are Team TVS, Team from Yamaha Factory and Team Libra Racing apart from several individual entries from various parts of the country. This will also give the Indian racing enthusiasts an opportunity to see the cream of India’s top bike racers in action.

The championship will consist of six rounds with the 1st. 2nd and 4th rounds being held at the Kari Motor Speedway track in Coimbatore. Rounds - 3, 5 and 6 will be held at the MMST track at Irrungattukottai near Chennai.

Speaking on the occassion, Mr.Rajat Majumder, President of the FMSCI, who flew from Kolkata only to launch this National Championship thanked the sponsors M/s.Ucal and Rolon for their sponsorship and said that Ucal Rolon NRRC is the highest level of road racing in India and considered it as prestigious for India as that of the International MotoGP. He said that many riders have graduated from this National Championship to international arena like Ashwin Sunder, Preetam Dev Moses, Rajini & Emmanuel Jebaraj. He further said that the FMSCI attaches its utmost importance to safety and said that talks are on to import quality safety gears like overalls etc and give it to the competitors at an affordable cost. He wished the championship all success as always.

Mr.Akbar Ebrahim of MECO Motorsports who is the promoter and coordinator of this Championship thanked Ucal and Rolon for their continued support and said that there are few new classes introduced in this year's championship and hoped that there would be atleast 3 rounds for the SuperBikes this year if not 6 rounds. He also said that plans are on to institute a training session for the riders by an internationally renowned instructor.

This season’s races will see the Ucal Rolon National Road Racing Championship moving towards the more powerful categories of bikes with the introduction of the two classes in the Group B, 4 stroke (110 - 160 cc & 161 to 250 cc) which will provide more action and higher speeds. The bikes in this group can be modified with imported parts.

Each round will consist of 2 races in each category.

Every winner of each category will be given a trophy and prize money as follows:
