Preetam, Sriskandarajah & K.Rajini in the championship lead

It will be the final opportunity this season for racing enthusiasts of Coimbatore and its surrounding area to witness the UCAL ROLON National Road Racing Championship 2007 for two wheelers as the 4th leg gets underway this weekend at the Kari Motor Speedway track, at Chettipalayam in Coimbatore.

The 5th and 6th rounds of this year’s championship will be held in Chennai in the coming months. The qualifying sessions will be held on Saturday, 18th and the main races on Sunday, 19th August. Being organized by Meco Motorsports Private Ltd. and Madras Motor Sports Club, this event is being sponsored for the third successive year by the automotive giants Ucal Fuel Systems and Rolon Chains. This event is being held under the aegis of the FMSCI (The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India).

Around 100 riders will be seen in action striving for honors in this round which will once again see the cream of Indian bike racers in action - including Preetam Dev Moses, K.Rajini and Ashwin Sundar - who have made their debut successfully in the international arena. Incidentally Preetam Dev Moses has achieved a new high at the international level by wining three successive races in this year’s Malaysian Super Series 600cc expert category and is currently leading in the championship.

At the end of Round 3 , the overall championship standings (top 3) are as follows-:

Expert category

Preetam Dev Moses of Team TVS heads the table in the Group C 2 Stroke 110 - 150 cc class with a tally of 145 points followed by T.K.Vishwanath and Sriskandarajah - both from Team Yamaha - with 135 and 109 points respectively.

K. Rajini of Team TVS with 141 points is in the lead in Group D 4 Stroke 125 - 160 cc class followed by R.Deepak with 116 points. P.Karthick and Harry Sylvester are tied in 3rd place with 114 points apiece. In the 80 - 125 cc class of the same category, it is Sriskandarajah at the top with 115 points. Preetam Dev Moses is close behind with 112 points. It is a tie for the third place with Ashwin Sundar and Harry Sylvester having garnered 106 points each while.

Group B 4 Stroke open category

Preetam Dev Moses of Team TVS leads in the 110 - 160 cc class with a tally of 139 points followed by Ashwin Sundar of Team Yamaha with 131 points. In 3rd place is K.Rajini of Team TVS with 114 points. In the 160 to 250 cc class R.Deepak is the leader with 147 points followed by P. Rajani and Ganesh Prasad with 139 and 95 points respectively.

Novice category

S. Shankar leads in both classes of the Group D 4 stroke category having a tally of 136 points in the 80 - 125 cc and 144 points in the 125 - 160 cc class respectively. Rohit Giri leads in Group D 2 stroke 110 -160 cc class and A.Sathish Kumar in Group C 2 Stroke 110 -150 cc class having a tally of 122 and 83 points respectively.

R.G.Gopal with a total of 31 points is the leader in the mopeds category.

The main races will commence on Sunday at 9.30 am.
