Chennai, July 12, 2008: The body which has formed the base for the international motorsport superstars in the country now will serve as a complete sporting power house of the motorsport in India. FMSCI is geared up for the motorsport enthusiasts and is ready to take them ahead of time at par with the international racing. At a press conference to announce its plans post regaining FIA sporting power, FMSCI will be undertaking the responsibility of governing motorsport in line with the laws of the land and in conjunction with the relevant rules of the worldwide bodies.

To boost the popularity of the sport in India, FMSCI with its sponsor partners, promoted motorsport at grass root level. The national championship which has grown from the humble beginnings into what is India’s premier motorsport championship today attracts the finest talent from across the country. FMSCI ensured that the sport which was recognized as a sport for elite class should be designed to suit the Indian pockets. Therefore, FMSCI established step by step platform for talents to hone the skills of young racers. The Karting programme offers gradual upgradation of regional karting to national karting to national racing, Asian series, Formula three and so on. In keeping with current management norms worldwide the FMSCI has set up active regional headquarters given the vast spread of the Nation with a Director responsible for each region.

Mr.Rajat Majumder, President FMSCI (L), Mr.J. Prithiviraj Vice President FMSCI (R)

Mr. Rajat Majumdar, President, FMSCI, said, “In this endeavor we would involve the Government and the industry to make highest level of technical equipment and training available to the sportsmen besides bringing in international two wheeler motorsport events like the FIM Asian GP, Asia Nations Cup, FIM Asian Supercross, etc. This year we introduced new format of JK Tyre National Racing Championship and declared 2008 as the ‘Year of the bikes’ and had superbikes races of 600cc and 1000cc category.” He added, “Formula One Management has recently signed an MoU for an F1 Indian Grand Prix in the near future which will bring the frenzy of motorsport in the country and FMSCI will work closely with the promoter.”

It is the most important period for motorsport with such a focus on India internationally. As international events and participation by Indians is always a goal, FMSCI will strengthen the pillars nationally and will focus to build a strong enough foundation to harness skills and make the sport an income stream like Cricket.

The ultimate award for a sportsman is the Arjuna Award and FMSCI will strive to work closely with the Government of India to get motorsport into the fold of Arjuna and Dhronacharya Awards. The Govt. of India, particularly the Ministry of Sports has given its unstinted support and fullest co-operation to the FMSCI and in the days ahead the body shall work and interact closely with them to secure available sanctions and subsidies for the sport. FMSCI have set the ball rolling to seek duty exemption on equipment for motorsport which will include Safety as well as technical equipments. FMSCI will start with an exemption for the import of timing equipment worth over 2 million rupees which we will soon be importing.

The FMSCI governing Council with Councilors from across the length & breadth of the country will be looking to protect the interest of all its member organizations. The body will corporatize the functioning of the organization with an induction of CEO and use website to get close to a paperless functioning of the sport.

Many Indian Drivers like Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandhok, Armaan Ebrahim, Ashwin Sundar, Aditya Patel, Naren Kumar, Gaurav Gill, Arjun Maini, and riders like Dilip Roggers, Rajini K, Rohit Giri, Santhosh C.S., Preetham Dev Moses among others are already making their mark in the International Motorsport. India is witnessing new heights for the motorsport. Dr. Mallya’s Force India and F1 coming to India have added to the growing enthusiasm for the sport in the country.

Inspite of some turbulent times, FMSCI is proud to have the biggest auto manufacturers and auto ancillaries in India who have stepped in a very large way in the last few years to support the championships.

FMSCI have always believed in functioning in a democratic and transparent manner and our Indian Motor Sports Appeal Court (IMSAC) is constituted by a Supreme Court Judge and High Court Judges. The national racing championship for 4 wheelers conceived and promoted by the FMSCI which is in its 12th year now has been the perfect example of a successful championship. Other success stories are the National Karting Championship which is running consecutively for the past 8 years and a Scooter Rally for 19 years which is a world record of sorts. Also, FMSCI is spearheading motorsport development and acting as a feeder of ASEAN region. The body is the first to take this initiative and is committed to take this endeavor forward.

For records in India, motorsport is already a second highest watched sport in Television, obviously behind cricket
