German ADAC Formula Masters Championship 2008
Ashwin Sundar score his first point

At round four of the German ADAC Formula Masters at the Nürburgring Ashwin Sundar finally was able to achieve his first championship point. The first small experience of success of which the ma-con Motorsport Team waited so long. "It’s the first step into the right direction. Of course it is just a small one but after all a very important one. Especially for the self-confidence of our Indian driver", explains team-boss Marian Hamprecht.

At the season overall races seven and eight, as part of the 1000km-race of the Le Mans Series at the 5,137 km long German track at the Eifel, the Volkswagen India supported driver became 13th and 10th. At the start it didn’t looked well in the qualifying, just like in Assen. The grid positions 15 and 17 were not promising at all for the following races. "That is some point where I definitely have to work on", agrees Sundar. "I have to make sure to get into the top 10 during the qualifying. Then I will be able to make it into the top positions in the races."

The first race on Saturday was pretty rough. The young driver from India was attacked hard by the Austrian Maximilian Mayer. Sundars rear got damaged and the alignment of the car was messed up. Nevertheless he was able to defend his 13th position until the end of the race.

I had a good start and was running 11th in lap 4, I lost my rear in a high speed left corner and had a spin. I recovered quicky and finished the race in 13th place. I was disappointed because i could have surely finished in top 10 .

The second race on Sunday started early at 8.00 o’clock in the morning. Ashwin hadn’t the best start and felt back to position 19 during the first round. After that he fought his way step by step into the top 10. His successful chase and his first championship point were definitely the best what could happen to raise the self-confidence of the only Indian driver in the field.
