Round 1 of FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship for Motorcycles

Mysore : 19th April 2008 : The Apache RTR Rally of Mysore 2008, round 1 of FMSCI - INRC for Motorcycles is all set to be flagged off from Ruchi-The Prince hotel on the Hinekal Road tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. Two wheeler rallying returns to India after 8 long years.

All the competing 31 riders went out on the mandatory organized recee (reconnaissance) today morning and found the route exciting. The recee is conducted to make the riders understand the course and look for any impending dangers like boulders, dips, etc., so that they can perform to the best of their ability in the actual rally tomorrow. “It is a top end rally and the event would test our riding skills”, opined the riders. Every rider felt that the second stage would be dicey and challenging.

After the flag off the rally then proceeds on a transport section to the K.R.Nagar area and take service at the Taluk Stadium, where the ‘Service Park’ is located. They would then proceed to ride in the three special stages, which are the competitive part of the rally. The first stage named ‘Chinni’ after Rally Champion and ace rider of yesteryears C.K.Chinnappa, measures 8 kilometers, the second named ‘Prakash’ after philanthropist and rally enthusiast Mr.Prakash Kadur, is 10 kilometers long, and the third stage named ‘Manju’ after Manjunath of Mysore who is supporting in the setting up of the route, etc., is 7 kilometers.

The rallyists would run through Chinni, Prakash, and Manju stages once and come back to the Service Park for service, and repeat the same process twice, with the service break, to complete the rally at K.R.Nagar. Totally the rally would run 75 kilometers of competitive Special Stage distance, and 93 kilometers of traversing transport distance. The rally is expected to finish at 4.30 p.m. at the Taluk Stadium and the prize distribution ceremony would be held at the same venue at 7.30 p.m.

The 31 riders who are participating in the Rally are from various parts of the country. “We have 2 riders from Chennai, 2 from Coimbatore, one from Erode, 3 from Mysore, one from Nagpur, 21 from Bangalore”, said Jaidas Menon, of Motorsport Inc., the organizers of the event. He said, “There is another interesting entry from Dubai, Aldrin Samuel. He is a well known name in the Indian 2 wheeler rallying in the nineties. Though he is now in Dubai, he has come all the way to participate in the event”. The event sponsored by TVS Apache and Shilpa Group.
