Podium finish for Ashwin Sundar in Guest Class
@ ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup

The last round of the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup for 150-hp racing polo touring cars was held in Hockenheimring between 24th & 26th October 2008. Our Mr.Ashwin Sundar took part in this event as a Guest Driver.

In the 20 minutes practice session, Ashwin could do only 7 laps and ended up in 20th fastest out of 31 cars which had 11 guest drivers from 5 different countries (Japan, China, America, Sweden and India). Ashwin said, "It was not really good because this was the first time in this track for me and I only have 20 laps of experience in this car and that too in a different track. But I am confident to do well in the qualifying"

In the qualifying session, Ashwin started pushing the car from the begining and was getting used to the car lap by lap. It was a 25 minute session and Ashwin was in 11th place but had to settle for 18th place at the end but was the 1st among the guest drivers.. Ashwin said "When it was 5 minutes to go I came in to change a few things in my car. But when I went out I dropped from 11th to 28th and had just 2 minutes left which meant I just had 1 flying lap, so I pushed as hard as I could and ended up 18th. My main focus this week end was just to learn more abou the car because I will be doing the full season next year in this class."

During the Sunday's race, Ashwin who started 18th on the grid moved to 16th in the first corner and everything was looking good. He made some good moves and was running 14th in the combined class, first in the guest class. The next guest driver was 7 secs away from him. But he got a drive through penalty. When I was trying to pass the guy in 13th from the outside of turn one I put four wheels off the track which was not legal and got a drive through penalty said Ashwin. When he went in to the pits and came out he dropped down to 28th but he managed to finish the race in 16th and 3rd in the guest class. I could have done much better if I had qualified well. But I am happy to make it on the podium in the guest class for the last race this year and I am confident of finishing in the top 5 in the Championship next year with more testing and track time. I would like to thank my sponsors Volkswagen India and JK Tyres for their supportsaid Ashwin.
