Gokul Krishna wins 3 races, Roshan Muthaiya wins 1 race

Chennai : 8th June 2008

The second set of four races for the Formula Marutis were held today at the Irungattukottai Race Track as part of the MMSC JK Tyre Summer Races which was inaugurated last week end. These races are held as a part of MMSC’s continuous exercise to encourage motor sports and unearth fresh talents. JK Tyre, the leading supporter to the Indian Motorsport and many Indians like Karun, Narain, Armaan who are doing India proud in various motorsport events abroad had kindly agreed to supply tyres free of cost for this event.

The race day consisted of a qualifying session and two races held in the morning and two races held in the afternoon session. There was a total of 14 Formula Marutis on the grid.

In the qualifying session it was Chetan from Team Wallace Sports Research Foundation (WSRF) who clocked the best timing of 1:15.193, but since his car had problems and had to change his car, he was relegated to start last on the grid. The pole position for race 1 was then held by his team mate Justin who clocked 1:15.221 (100.504 kmph). The winner of the last weekend races Gokul Krishna started 2nd on the grid followed by Team Rams Racing Akhil Devraj.

With the mercury level bearable, the race 1 started at 1145 hrs. Gokul of Team WSRF went past his team mate Justin to emerge a clear winner in this race. Justin finished 2nd with Akhil Devraj of Team Rams Racing finishing third.

The second race for the day was started at 1245 hrs with Gokul of Team WSRF on pole followed by Justin & Akhil Devraj based on the results of race 1. In this race also, Gokul was invincible as he led the race from start to the finish. Justin had problems with his car and had to retire after lap 1. This paved way for Akhil Devraj of Team Rams Racing move to second place which he held till the checkered flag. There was a good fight for the third place between Chetan & Paragjyoti Bartha (both Team WSRF) till the last lap but finally it was Chetan who finished third. Roshan Muthaiya of Team WSRF eventually finished 4th.

Gokul KrishnaThe afternoon session started with race 3 with Gokul on pole, followed by Akhil Devraj & Justin in that order. There was no looking back for Gokul who just pulled away from the rest of the pack of drivers to win this race as well. Akhil lost his 2nd place to Roshan Muthaiya in lap 1 itself and Muthaiya of WSRF held to this 2nd position till the end. There was a good fight between Chetan of WSRF and Mohit M of Team Rams for the third spot till lap 4 but it was the latter who finished third. Justin of WSRF who started last on the grid finished a creditable 4th.

For the last race of the MMSC JK Tyre Summer Races it was once again Gokul on the pole followed by his team mate Roshan Muthaiya and Team Rams Mohit M. It was the best race of the day with the drivers fighting it out till the finish. Roshan Muthaiya & Gokul were bumper to bumper from start to finish but it was Roshan who took the checkered flag and Gokul had to be content with 2nd place. It was unfortunate for Mohit who was in 3rd till lap 3 but had to retire. Paragjyoti Bartha who was following Mohit used this opportunity to move to 3rd position and finished 3rd. Akhil Devraj of Rams who started 7th on the grid tried his best and finished 4th.
