Chennai, February 11,
2009: The stage is set for the new racing season for
formula cars as the 12th edition of the JK Tyre FMSCI National
Racing Championship gets underway this weekend at the Madras
Motor Race Track at Irungaatukottai. The concept of the championship
which has been formatted to take Indian motor sports to greater heights
has over the years seen several young racers at the forefront in the
international level of formula car racing.
The format of the national
championship which has been consistently been updated with the latest
technology has gone to become India’s premier motor sport championship.
With full grids in most classes, the teams and drivers have worked
tirelessly to get their cars ready. Economic meltdown or not, the
sponsors have come forward to help the individual drivers. And as we
saw in the IPL auction the cricketers hit the economic slowdown for a
six. We hope the racers too will validate the spend on them by the
sponsors and will see perhaps one of the most exciting entry list seen
in this 12 year old championship.
JK Tyre is continuing their
passion in motor racing in spite of the recession and everyone is
awaiting the exciting entry of Volkswagen into Indian Motorsport later
in the year.
The Formula Rolon Chevrolet entry
list has last year’s defending champion Gaurav Dalal of
Red Rooster Racing Team who are fielding
another two cars for Sarosh Hataria and Akhil
Khushlani. Team NK Racing is fielding Ashwin
Sundar, past National Championship winner (Formula LGB Swift
& Formula LGB Hyundai) who is committed to race in India inspite of
his International racing commitments. So is Aditya Patel (past
championship winner) driving for his father’s new racing outfit. Karthik
Shankar who won last years Formula LGB Swift category drives
for Team Rams Racing and another independent entry
of Saran Vikram ( past champion) also joins the fray.
With Ajay Kini, Diljith
(Amaron Pro Racing),
Saahil Shelar, Shankar Narayan
(Amaron Pro Racing), there's going to be a quality field. Who
will be crowned the National champion this year is anybody’s guess as
we haven’t seen in the past such a large contingent of top class racers
together in one class. The Formula LGB Swift class is the entry level
for youngsters who want to pursue racing as a career option .With no
past championship winners allowed in this class for 2009. This is once
again a wide open field of 17 young and talented drivers, graduates
from National Karting and JK Tyre Junior Cup winners.
