12th JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship : Saturday Report

Sudarshana Rao (Team TVS Girling) : National Champion : Formula LGB Swift
Akkhil Devrag (Team Rams Racing) : National Champion : Formula LGB Hyundai

Two championship titles were sealed today as Day 1 of the sixth and final round of the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship 2009 unfolded at the Madras Motor Race Track near Chennai.

The day proved to be a glorious one for Team TVS Girling and Rams Racing as their drivers acquitted themselves for top honors in Formula LGB Swift and Formula LGB Hyundai categories of the prestigious national event.

Sudarshana Rao with Team MembersSudarshana Rao of Team TVS Girling winning the title was on the cards as he was leading the pack with 70 points to his credit before taking to the grid today. Duly, Bangalore based Sudarshana clinched the national title in the Formula LGB Swift class with a race to spare, which is slated for tomorrow. True to his last and fifth round performance, Sudarshana drove a calculated race and never put himself under any pressure. Having enjoyed a lead of 14 point lead over his nearest rival, Prithveen Rajan of Wallace Sports before the event today, Sudarshana needed to finish on board to enhance his chances but rightly he took to the podium finishing third behind Ajay Kini (20:07.405 secs) of Wallace Sports and his team mate S.Narendran (20:13.858 secs) respectively. Sudarshana took 20:17.048 secs to finish third and tallied 76 points to remain on top of the points table. With one more race to be held tomorrow, it is humanly impossible for the other drivers to catch him. Sudarshana said at the end of the race that he was only eyeing to be ahead of Prithveen Rajan and kept up his pace accordingly. “I never wanted to finish first but I was only looking forward to gain as much points as possible. My plan ultimately paid off”, he said.

The Formula LGB Hyundai Endurance event turned out to be a pot boiler with both Sudanand Rajan (Wallace Sports) and Akhil Devrag (Ram’s Racings) fighting tooth and nail for finishing high in the concluding event today.
