The curtains will come down this year for the final round of the
fifth edition of JK Tyre FMSCI Junior Cup on
December 5-6, 2009 at Sriperumbudur, Chennai. The young stars
will race on Formula Maruti cars. The Junior Cup, which is jointly
organized, by Madras Motor Sports Club and JK Tyre,
has generated tremendous response from aspiring young drivers
from different parts of the country like, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata,
Chennai, Guwahati etc
A
new crop of aspiring young drivers have emerged after the first
two rounds. With the trio from Wallace Sports Vikash Anand,
Steve Hodges and K.Vinoth already
in the top three slots in the hunt for the cup title. A consolidated
and a consistent effort will ensure either of the young stars
the title.
At
the end of the first two rounds it is the very consistent 15 year
old lad from Chennai, Vikash Anand who is in
the championship lead with a tally of 44 points. Vikash
finished first in one race and second in four races to
achieve his currently placing. Mumbai lad Steve Hodges’s
excellent performance in the second round gave him enough points
to move up to the second place in the championship ratings. Steve
has 38 points under his belt currently. It was a weekend
of mixed fortunes for K.Vinoth who is currently
placed third in the points table with 29 points. Vinoth
started with a bang in Round 1 by winning both the races.
However he could not repeat his performance in Round 2 as his
vehicle had problems the entire day. Despite the shortcomings
Vinoth managed to put a valiant effort to finish
in the top three in one race of Round 2.
The
winner of the JK Tyre FMSCI Junior Cup will get
a full sponsored opportunity to race within the big league in
the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship,
country's premium racing championship. This event is a forerunner
to the next JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship,
which is slated to begin in February 2010. This experience will
help the drivers to be on an even footing when they race with
the racing stars in the big events.
The
races are designed to ensure school and college going youngsters
get an opportunity to race without affecting their studies. Also,
the races are finished over a period of two weekends without disturbing
their weekdays. The series has become a great opportunity for
budding talents with encouragement and valuable inputs coming
in form of free training from country's racing champions like
Akbar Ebrahim & Rayomand Banaji
Now
with Volkswagen Polo Cup in India from next year,
the opportunities for the youngsters have increased and they can
look forward for the races this weekend. VW Polo Cup is
a touring car concept which has helped the entry level racing
around the world.
