Chennai, December 6, 2009 : The 5th edition of
the JK Tyre FMSCI Junior Cup 2009 concluded at
the Madras Motor Sports Trust Race Track in Irungaatukottai near
suburban Sriperumbudur here today.
K.Vinoth
of Wallace Sports has been declared
the overall winner for the Driver’s title of the JK
Tyre FMSCI Junior Cup 2009 as his teammate Vikash
Anand, who was earlier declared as the winner, was excluded
on technical grounds by the FMSCI Stewards of the meet based on
findings of the FMSCI Scrutineer .
The
engine of all the 15 cars that took part in the cup were sealed
by the FMSCI Scrutineer after qualifying rounds yesterday morning
before conducting the remaining five races for the championship
and the engine of cars of top three finishers were opened late
this evening. During the post-event scrutiny of the cars of Vikash
Anand, Vinoth K of Wallce Sports
and Karthick Krishna of Rams
Racing, it was found that the cylinder head volume of
Vikash Anand's car was found to be not in conformity
with the homologation form.
Accordingly,
the FMSCI Stewards, decided to exclude Vikash Anand from
the races held yesterday and today and moved up the competitors
resulting from the exclusion. K Vinoth has been
declared winner of the overall title of the Junior Cup. Karthick
Krishna was promoted as runner-up and Mumbai’s
Steve Hodges to third place.
Race
Report
The
first race today was the closest wherein front runner Vinoth
and Vikash Anand were going very tight
to each other but Vinoth managed to take the
chequered flag with a strong finish by a fraction of a second
from his nearest rival, Vikash anand. Karthick
Krishna of Rams Racing, another contender
for the title came third.

The
battle for the top slot continued in the second race too, as Vinoth
and Vikash Anand were involved in yet
another pulsating duel. But an incident of oil spill by the car
of Pratyuman Guhan, a Wallace Sports
driver, resulted in the spoiling the chances of four
of the drivers in the competitions. Thus the vehicles of Vikash
Anand, Karthik Krishna, Steve
Hodges and Ravi Dubey spun off the track
and went out off the race. However, this helped Vinoth
to his second successive win of the day, and also put
him within striking distance of the title.
In
the third race, Vinoth and Vikash Anand
along with Sandeep Kumar were engaged
in a close three way tussle. After a closely fought out race,
it was Vinoth who ultimately came up trumps although
it was just not enough for him to seal the championship. Vikash’s
third place finish helped him seal the championship just two points
ahead of Vinoth. The curtains finally came down
on two weekends of thrills with Vinoth taking
the top slot in the third and final race of the day.
